Deaf and Hard of Hearing Service Center, Inc. (DHHSC) is a private, non-profit
social service agency that serves individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing,
deaf-blind, and late deafened, their families, friends, and community service
providers. Our Mission is to advocate, seek equality, and promote self-determination
through empowerment for those who seek our assistance; and to enhance the awareness
and understanding of Deaf Culture and the unique communication needs of the
Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals.
Summary and Mission
This job contributes to the success of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Service Center by serving the Deaf and Hard of Hearing clients in the areas of communication access, case management, referral, and advocacy, independent living skills, and job placement and development.
Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities
• Listens and provides information and referral to the deaf and hearing
communities
• Visits clients in homes or attends group meetings to provide information
on agency services, requirements, and procedures
• Provides advocacy for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing clients that seek
help which includes, but not limited to interpreting, translating, counseling,
finding clients places to live
• Provides workshops that Educate the deaf and hearing communities about
their rights and the resources available to meet their needs
• Provides presentations to local agencies, schools, and businesses about
deafness, DHHSC’s services, assistive technology, and other related information
• Provides workshops monthly at DHHSC for the Deaf Community
• Represents DHHSC at events such as working booths and networking
Qualifications
Summary of Experience
• High school degree or GED
• Bachelors in Social Services preferred
• Experience in Case Management or a Related field (1-2 years preferred)
• Experience in presenting information to large and small groups (1 year
preferred)
• Experience in working with deaf and hearing communities (1-2 years preferred)
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Fluent in American Sign Language
• Knowledge of Deaf Culture
• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal
services
• Knowledge of the Americans with Disability Act
• Knowledge of agencies that can further help deaf clients
• Knowledge of SSI
• Ability to work cooperatively with a diverse constituency of clients
and maintain confidentiality
• Ability to project a positive image of the job and the agency

Deafened artist seeks part time In Home Support Services Provider:
I am a late deafened woman (I speak, sign and lipread) am disabled by SLE (Systemic
Lupus) and HCV (HepC), in my 50's looking for a Deaf or fluent signer who has
a somewhat flexible schedule and is available 1 or 2 afternoons or evenings
a week for up to 12hrs/wk. assisting mostly with chores in my home: cleaning,
laundry, occasional driving, groceries, yard work and ASL tutoring. I have been
signing for around 15 years, but am shy about using it. Occasionally I will
need you to accompany me to appointments or deaf events.
Must be patient, friendly, nurturing, motivated, reliable, trustworthy, responsible,
organized and good at helping me stay organized. Also must have references,
reliable transportation and valid drivers license w/clean record. Available
to start May 2009.
Payment begins approximately 2 weeks after time sheet is sent to IHSS. $11.50/hr
pay is provided through State and Federal funds from the Alameda County Social
Services Agency, Department of Adult and Aging Services.

Viable Representative for San Francisco, California
Viable is seeking Representatives to assist deaf and hard-of-hearing customers with installing the VPAD, Viable Vision and ViableVRS, troubleshoot networking issues and undertake other marketing-related projects as assigned.
Responsibilities:
Provide technical assistance to customers requiring help in: (1) setting up
Viable Vision and/or VPAD's; (2) adding ViableVRS.tv to their videophone; and
(3) placing a ViableVRS call using both methods.
Provide remote customer education and training on using ViableVRS, developing
educational/training materials as needed.
Troubleshoot hardware/software issues as required to achieve customer satisfaction.
Report service-related issues and interface with Customer Support.
Provide, on a escalation basis, second-tier customer support and/or technical
assistance to customers, in collaboration with Customer Support.
Transfer knowledge and learning to first-tier customer support to minimize number
of escalations to second-tier Customer Support.
Disseminate and collect customer feedback for Regional Coordinator.
Identify and communicate patterns and trends in customer usage based on observations.
Provide regional presentations and/or workshops for Viable's products and services.
Build and maintain positive relationships with deaf and hard of hearing communities,
including but not limited to the following: business, education, government
and community-based organizations
Identify regional community events for Viable representation, as directed by
Sales.
Convey excitement and enthusiasm about the Company and its services and products.
Promote favorable perception of the Company's brands and offerings with customers
through regular interactions and participation in special events, as directed
by Viable.
Requirements:
Excellent communication skills and a good understanding of Deaf culture.
Ability to create reports encompassing installation and customer service related
issues; interface with the Viable Customer Support Team and Sales Operations
Manager.
Must be familiar with PC and videophone troubleshooting, networking, router
configuration and firewall issues.
Ability to effectively communicate in American Sign Language (ASL).
Ability to be flexible and accommodate an extensive travel schedule.
Attendance is an essential function of this position.

Brief summary of duties:
Hands On Video Relay Services (HOVRS) is seeking candidates to be responsible
for educating and training customers within their respective regions. A HOVRS
Representative will educate and train customers on how to set up and use HOVRS
features, options and various services. Tasks will also include; researching
upcoming marketing events, participating in community events such as school
or social gatherings. While at such events, the HOVRS Representative will provide
attendees with information about HOVRS and our services. They will also be responsible
for collecting data and information from these local events to be used within
the marketing and outreach departments at HOVRS. Additionally, the HOVRS Representative
will assist the marketing team in setting up booths at trade shows, schools
and various events. The Representative may also be responsible for assisting
Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing customers in setting up video products in their home;
such as web cams, D-Link, i-Sight, and box top receivers. Training these new
customers on how to place a video relay call through HOVRS will also be conducted
by the HOVRS Representative.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
- Technical experience in the area of residential firewalls/routers is beneficial
but not required
- PC and Macintosh troubleshooting experience are beneficial but not required.
- Fluent in ASL
- Previous telephone and written communication skills are required
- Excellent interpersonal skills to be used to develop and improve lasting relations
with customers
