Job Description:
The Indiana State Department of Health is currently seeking an Education./Early Intervention Consultant for the Southeast district for the Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education. The position acts as an Education/Early Intervention Consultant who provides early intervention home visiting and center-based services to children who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing and their families through the Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education SE region office located in Scottsburg. This position also helps the new Center meets its objectives of tracking children in early intervention, monitoring progress, decreasing loss to follow-up during the early intervention period, and enhancing the likelihood of successful outcomes and successful transitions of children from early intervention to their local education agency and preschool services. This position works closely with the Early Intervention Coordinator and with other Early Intervention staff at the CDHHE to assure that infant-toddler programming is aligned with the CDHHE Vision, Mission, and Strategic Plan.
Responsibilities:
Provides high quality, outcomes-drive, culturally-competent Listening and Spoken Language direct early intervention services to children and families through a balance of home visiting and Center-based services.
Participates in professional consultations and child Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) meetings
Develops early intervention plans and monitors progress in an ongoing manner
Documents services through Summary of Service forms and Progress Reports as well as ongoing assessments of the child's progress
Ensures that children who are deaf or hard of hearing whose parents have chosen listening and spoken language as the primary mode and method for learning language will acquire optimal language skills and pre-academic abilities
Provides unbiased comprehensive information to families regarding communication choices/opportunities and technologies in a respectful and culturally-competent manner.
Conveys the importance of and acts as an advocate for early and appropriate early intervention services that are consistent with the parent's desired outcomes and goals.
Work collaboratively with parents, other early intervention personnel, co-workers, and agencies to assure that a child’s program is sufficiently comprehensive for her/her needs.
Ensures that families are aware of the Guide By Your Side (GBYS) parent-to-parent support program and encourage connections to this program as an additional support and model for parents to develop decision-making and parent empowerment skills as the primary support to their child.
Provides technical assistance to First Steps SPOE staff and support, parents and guidance and mentoring to CDHHE providers, if requested by supervisor, through sharing of current data and resources related to Listening and Spoken Language.
Plans and executes at least one training annually related to Listening and Spoken Language
Participates in development of monitoring and follow-up mechanisms for children enrolled in Early Intervention with other CDHHE and Maternal and Child Health team members as needed
Develop methods of collecting educational outcome data and provide analysis and trending information to the agency executive and senior management;
Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Experience:
Degree in Deaf Education, Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, or related field
Expertise and skill in the development of Listening and Spoken Language with certification as a Listening and Spoken Language Specialist or evidence of interest in pursuing certification and no less than three years’ experience in working with young children who are developing listening and spoken language skills.
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other sign language is desired, but not required for this position. Quality ASL instruction available for the incumbent if needed.
Strong commitment to family-centered services with an emphasis on outcomes, goals, and objectives as desired by the child’s parents
Ability to focus on needs of individual infants and toddlers and ability to navigate relationships with parents, early intervention agencies and others through analysis and resolutions of those issues that may arise due to diverse opinions among stakeholders
Ability to anticipate problems that would create barriers to achieving goals and initiate corrective action
Ability to communicate effectively with parents, early intervention personnel and other professionals
Ability to attend to and synthesize information and express perceptions and recommendations as well as mentor professionals
Ability to support all communication choices, adhere to the CDHHE Vision, Mission, Values, and Guiding Principles and the ability to work well with a diverse staff
Knowledge of Part C Early Intervention protocols
Strong interest in being part of a new team comprised of professionals, parents and deaf and hard of hearing individuals who will work together to create exemplary statewide services and model programming for others to follow
Ability to establish priorities, set deadlines and manage multiple tasks

Job Description:
The Indiana State Department of Health is currently seeking an Audiologist for the south region of the Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education. This position acts in the role of Audiologist for the Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education (CDHHE) SE regional office located in Scottsburg. This position provides audio logical services to children ages birth through school exit, with much of the caseload being birth to three. The person in this position would be a member of the CDHHE Assessment team and would be expected to possess or obtain First Steps credentialing. This position reports to the CDHHE Assessment Coordinator
Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive audiological assessments individually or with assistance to identify children with hearing loss or establish stability of hearing loss to include:
case history, otoscopic inspection, auditory brainstem response (ABR),
otoacoustic emissions (OAE),
acoustic immittance, and behavioral audiometry (VRA, CPA, standard):
Participation on Assessment team for multi-disciplinary assessments of children as needed.
Complete and interpret audiograms, acoustic immittance measurements, ABR, OAE, and behavioral test results
Use current audiological, amplification and other information (i.e., tools to assess auditory skills) to provide appropriate audiological recommendations with regard to whole child development
Clearly and accurately explain test results and implications as well as other information during evaluations, consultations, Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) meetings and Case Conference Committee meetings
Select, dispense, and manage appropriate amplification for children ages 0-3.
Make ear impressions or modifications of earmolds as necessary
Use Desired Sensation Level (DSL) fitting protocol
Verify amplification characteristics using real-ear measures
Electroacoustically evaluated amplification devices and interpret their appropriateness for use
Complete written reports of individual and team evaluations for children tested/evaluated, including accurate and clear documentation of correspondence with parents and outside agencies and clear and concise explanation of evaluation results and other knowledge of child by participating in Individualized
Family Service Plan or Case Conference Committee meetings or upon request
Participate in department, team, and audiological meetings to maintain efficient standards of service for children and families
Represent CDHHE in various functions as determined by director or supervisor through collaborative activities, networking and consulting with agencies, educational and medical professionals and other stakeholders
Preferred Experience:
Minimum of:
Graduate degree in Audiology (Au.D for new graduates)
Indiana audiology licensure or immediate eligibility for Indiana licensure (Indiana Professional Licensing Agency - Speech Language Pathology & Audiology Board)
Background and experience with pediatrics and difficult-to-test populations. For new audiology doctoral program graduates, an externship in pediatrics is a plus
Licensure as an audiologist by the Indiana Board of Examiners on Speech Pathology and Audiology required.

Job Description:
The Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education is currently seeking a Visual Language Specialist. The position serves as a Visual Language Specialist for (CDHHE) and reports directly to the Assessment Coordinator, as part of a multi-disciplinary team charged with providing assessments and services to Deaf and Hard of Hearing children, ages birth through school exit, and their families throughout the state of Indiana.
Responsibilities:
This position completes written reports regarding language development of children who use visual language, and attends case conferences to share recommended goals to meet individual needs of students. This position serves as a resource regarding visual language development to parents and professionals throughout the state of Indiana and works with researchers to develop current tools for testing students in visual language development.
Participates in multi-disciplinary assessments of Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing children in the state of Indiana.
After completion of assessment, provide preliminary results to parents and professionals involved with the child.
Provide language evaluation of students using relevant or adaptive testing materials, frequently working in conjunction with the Assessment team’s Speech language pathologist.
Submit a written language assessment report as portion of multidisciplinary team report.
Provide consultation as to determine appropriate goals and objectives and educational or classroom placement for the Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing students.
Represent assessment team at case conferences.
Provide support to the teacher of record of students referred for evaluation as appropriate
Participate in CDHHE initiatives and committees.
Attends professional development activities.
Contribute ideas and efforts for Assessment team and CDHHE improvement.
Represents the CDHHE in various functions as determined by the incumbent’s supervisor.
Complete other duties as assigned.
Preferred Experience:
Accredited Bachelors degree with a minimum of three (3) years experience with a strong background in American Sign Language linguistics and teaching reading and English to deaf and hard of hearing children
Ability to communicate clearly and have organization skills
Strong background in American Sign Language linguistics and teaching reading and English to deaf and hard of hearing children
Fluency in four major areas of American Sign Language: expressive, receptive, grammar and literacy
Ability to observe, evaluate and assess competency levels in American Sign Language
Knowledge of child development and adolescence behavior

This position acts in the role of Audiologist for the Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education's (CDHHE) Southwest Indiana location (Evansville). - Participate in special projects as assigned by the Director or immediate supervisor.
- Acts as a primary regional contact for the CDHHE for parents, school districts, and professionals to field questions and provide direction as to next steps

- Works with CDHHE central office trans-disciplinary assessment team as needed
- Works with school districts within southwest IN, upon request, to support students through making recommendations related to the child’s needs and related services.

The Indiana School for the Deaf strives to be the premier comprehensive center

and dedicated Audiologist to join our team. Representative responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive audiological services to children ages birth through
21 years with primary responsibility for birth to three years
• Provide hearing aid evaluation and fitting as an SRNDHH service provider
for the First Steps early intervention program, including participation in goal
