Community College of Philadelphia is seeking a full-time, tenure-track ASL/English Interpreting Instructor or Assistant Professor beginning in Fall 2019.
Specific Responsibilities
• The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching courses in Interpreting and ASL.
• In addition, position will require program planning and development, curricular/course review and oversight, and supervision of multimedia interpreting lab.
• Participate in collaborative teaching, College life and maintaining networks within the local deaf and interpreting communities. Courses may be offered at any of our campus locations.
• Demonstrate a sense of connection and responsibility for helping the College to achieve success through a commitment to its mission, vision, and values.
• Actively participate in the academic life of the College; including participation in graduation, recruitment events, general assemblies, student life activities and other cross functional teams. Create learning opportunities for students inside and outside of the classroom including opportunities to teach dual-enrollment high school students.
• Communicate effectively, share vision, focus on people, initiate positive change, value differences and foster collaboration. Work with and inspire others to achieve college, department, and individual success. Proactively identify/address problems.
• Establish an inclusive environment in the classroom. Demonstrate an understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of the College's faculty, staff and students.
• Participation in continual assessment and course updates to ensure excellence in meeting program and student learning outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications
• Master's Degree in teaching Sign Language, ASL/Deaf Studies, ASL/English Interpreting, interpreter pedagogy, linguistics, or closely related field.
• RID and ASLTA certification required (or evidence of application in process.
• Applicants must have native or near-native fluency in ASL.
• Minimum three years experience teaching ASL and interpreting in a postsecondary setting. The successful applicant will have expertise in using technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process and be able to work day and/or evening as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
• Five or more years experience teaching ASL and interpreting in a postsecondary setting strongly preferred.
• Deaf individuals strongly encouraged to apply.

Under the ADA we offer an accommodation if a Deaf person requests this. Currently I have 2 Deaf employees working in our skilled nursing center. We have a community outreach service connected with our organization called Deaf Connections. They support us with interpreting services and I have a video phone in my office available to team members. Please consider placing my posting. The Night T/C is responsible for providing overnight supervision (during sleeping hours) and care for the youth in the program.
